Library
The Henry Kramer Library and Resource Center houses the over 13,000-volume Day School Library collection, as well as the extensive Tofield Collection. The Tofield Collection was generously donated by the family of Rabbi Sanders A. Tofield. Rabbi Tofield was the spiritual leader of the Jacksonville Jewish Center from 1947 until his death in 1960. This amazing collection includes both commonly studied text and rare books dating from the 19th century-most of them works from Rabbi Tofield's personal collection.
The library is open from Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on selected times on Sunday. Our librarian is Mrs. Louise Leonard, and she is always glad to see visitors and helps in every way possible.
Grades K-5 in the day school see Mrs. Louise Leonard weekly for library lessons and literature connections. They also participate in Library Squad and Shelf Adoption programs. These two programs are a tremendous help to our librarian, and a real mitzvah.
Library Squad started in 2002. Students who wish to do so may volunteer, and help Mrs. Louise Leonard perform a library-related task during their class visit. Students do a great job checking in books, processing, printing labels, and much more.
Our shelf adoption program was started in 2002 as well. Students in grades K-8 may "adopt" a shelf in the library. Each week during their library time the students straighten their shelves and keep them in order. Surprise inspections take place once or twice a month, and students receive rewards in they pass.
Other library programs include the library's annual birthday party, as well as the Book-A-Bration. These two programs allow donors to give money or materials to the library in honor of a loved one, a birthday, a bar or bat mitzvah, or other family events.
For more information on the library and its programs, or if you would like to make a contribution to our wonderful collection, please stop by and see Mrs. Louise Leonard. She may also be reached by phone at (904) 268-4200 x 129.
